Are you working on a book-length manuscript that would benefit from a supportive group, feedback, craft study, and community? PVWW's 10-Month Manuscript Program offers structure and support for writers (all genres) over a ten-month period (from March through December). The open house is a chance to meet the program instructors and current students, as well as learn more about the program! The open house will begin with short readings from several of the program's current students, followed by short readings with the program's instructors. After the readings, we'll talk talk more about the program, hear briefly from each instructor, and answer any questions about the program.

Embracing the Strange: Writing Speculative Fiction to Get at Deeper Truths

I'll be teaching a short workshop on speculative fiction, focusing on the boundaries between the possible and impossible writers often find themselves exploring, and the question, Can “strange” and magical stories allow us to better express the raw truths of our lived experiences? I'll give a short craft talk, we'll look at some masterful excerpts together, and spend time writing in response to a number of imaginative prompts.

Because of a lot of interest and questions I get around this time of year, I’m going to be offering a two-hour workshop through PVWW on applying to project-specific grants and crafting artist statements and proposals. I'll share what I've learned about applying to project-specific grants, artist residencies, scholarships, and other competitive opportunities. We'll talk about proposal letters, artist statements, selecting strong work samples, budgets (requested in some grant applications), among other topics. Non-writer artists welcome too. Limited to 15 attendees.
